Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston was our final destination and reason for our trip in the first place.  Brendan's sister lives in Charleston, and we wanted to visit her and her family, and we figured since we were spending so much on plane tickets to get us out there that we should go and see lots of other cities too.   Charleston was also our favorite city on the trip.  It was such a CHARMING city with all of the cobblestone streets and cute shops and historical buildings.  It had such a European feel, and delicious food.  We can't wait to go back.

 Cousins!

Taryn was nice and watched the girls while we went took a ferry out to Fort Sumter where the first shots were fired that started the civil war.

After our tour of Fort Sumter, Brendan and I went out to lunch at Husk.  I had heard about the restaurant from lots of my magazines.  Sean Brock is the well known chef that runs the restaurant located in this cute historical home.  Our meal was delicious.  Brendan had the popular southern dish of shrimp and grits.

And of course we had to have some dessert.  We stopped in at the Sugar bakeshop. The butter pecan ice cream was DELICIOUS!

King street is all about shopping.

 Rainbow Row

I just loved all of the ivy and greenery and flowers hanging from windows with open shutters everywhere.
This style of home is popular and called the Charleston single.

We went to Citadel, the military college of South Carolina, and watched their parade they have each Friday.
 St. Phillips Evangelical Church

We walked down to Waterfront park and went on the big swings on the pier, and saw the pineapple fountain.

Just a walk down the road from Waterfront park is the Battery, well known for its beautiful antebellum homes.
